How to recycle your crisp packets and help your local community

We hear it talked about so often…how human activity is effecting climate change and what can we all do!

The problem seems so large, as individuals we feel we can have little impact, but consider it in another way – if the little things we do add up to cause the problem, it’s the little things we can do that can slowly add up to help the solution.

As a local vending Operator East Midlands Vending want to help and make a difference. As part of our staff choice charity this year, we have selected Rumbletums our local community café.

Recycling vending waste helps community café raise funds

Rumbletums Café is a supported training project for young people with a learning disability, some of whom may also have an additional physical disability.

The project offers non-accredited training and work experience opportunities to young people aged between 16 and 30. Committed to establishing an environment with an appropriate level of support to enable young people to make their own valued contribution to the organisation and to reach their individual potential.

Trainees gain experience in a wide range of activities, including cooking, serving food and drinks, cash handling, time management, using the washing machine, dishwasher, airing and folding laundry, shopping in the local community and also to  meet people and become part of working team.

Walkers partners with TerraCycle to recycle packaging

Walkers offer a simple and free crisp packet recycling scheme which accepts all other crisp brands as well.

At East Midlands Vending we place collection boxes alongside all our snack and crisp vending machines and we remove all the recyclable waste from our client sites to our central storage location before transporting it to our Local Rumbletums Café.

Rumbletums is just one of 3758 participating locations that have recycled 55,565,754 products to date.

What happens to this Recycled Vending waste?

Terracycle continue the process as they separate the crisp packets by plastic type, clean and then extrude into plastic pellets to make new recycled products.

After the waste is recycled into a raw material, it is sold to manufacturing companies who produce end-products, completing the journey of recycling. These end products may include outdoor furniture and decking, plastic shipping pallets, watering cans, storage containers and bins, tubes for construction applications, flooring tiles, playground surface covers and athletic fields and much more.

Building this simple Recycling initiative into our everyday operation at East Midlands Vending we are able to support our community café to raise funds and recycle waste into new channels.
